What’s So Wonderful About Ischia?

A ferry ride from Naples, across  the sparkling sea, takes you to the wonderful island of Ischia.

Ischia gives travelers a fabulous combination of La Dolce Vita glamour, rich history, and a folksy Neapolitan scene in its villages—along with fantastic southern Italian food—pizza, seafood pastas, and the best bruschetta al pomodoro I’ve ever eaten!

You may have seen Ischia’s famous castle in the 1999 movie, “The Talented Mr. Ripley”

or its beautiful beaches more recently, in episodes of HBO’s “My Brilliant Friend”.

I fell in love with Ischia decades ago, when I arrived in Italy after a long trip from the USA. Like many travelers, I was thrilled to immediately indulge in the thermal water — the island has been famous for these magic springs since the days of the Roman Empire.

I landed at the glamorous L’Albergo Regina Isabella, where celebs such as Elizabeth Taylor and Maria Callas stayed in 1960s La Dolce Vita days.

Since then I’ve gone back to the island again and again, discovering more of its pleasures on each trip.

Recently I returned to  L’Albergo Regina Isabella to discover it’s been renovated in chic style.
That’s what gave me the inspiration to create EXTRA GOLDEN DAYS ON THE ISLAND OF ISCHIA: FOR WOMEN ONLY (October 26-30, 2025). The 4-night itinerary is a perfect way for me to share with travelers the great range of wonderfulness the island has to offer.

Highlights of Golden Days in Ischia will be:

— Our Home Base – L’Albergo Regina Isabella – The sprawling 5-star hotel/spa/beach was built by film producer/publisher Angelo Rizzoli, over the ruins of ancient Greek baths. It’s become a legendary destination, gorgeously set-up to enjoy spectacular seaviews—from the restaurants, bars, or your bella-bella room.

— L’Albergo Regina Isabella’s Spa Specialty is thermal mud treatments, scientifically prepared with a 6-month maturation process, and praised for treating inflammation and improving circulation. The natural mix of great minerals that flows through the springs in this particular part of Ischia is so fascinating, it was studied by Marie Curie and top medical universities in Europe.

— Ischia’s Winemaking Traditions

Winemaking in Ischia goes back over 2000 years – to the  Greeks who first planted vineyards on the island. Today Ischia’s wines are award-winners sold all over the world. We’ll have an intimate experience of this great tradition – dinner and tasting at a rustic family winery.

— Award-Winning La Mortella Gardens

This exotic, terraced wonderland, is praised as one of the most beautiful gardens in Europe. La Mortella was the dream project of an Argentinian woman, Susanna Walton, who moved here with her British husband, composer William Walton in 1949. You’ll hear stories about Susanna’s life as you are guided through a spectacular mix of orchids, ferns, palms, water lilies, and fountains, and then have a leisurely break at the garden’s tea house.

— Enchanting Villages. Each of Ischia’s villages has its unique charms. We’ll visit 3 of them with a local guide.
Ischia Ponte to enjoy the view of the Aragonese Castle, baroque and medieval architecture in its narrow lanes, and charming shops.
Sant’ Angelo is in the perfect position foro the sunset.

Forio in the evening is a lively scene, with passegiatta and pizzerias—Naples by the Sea.

During these Golden Days, every detail is taken care of to be sure you have an enriching and relaxing experience. This includes a final evening in a glamorous Naples hotel set seaside, so you can have easy access to your next stop – whether it’s the airport or train station.

Golden Days on the Island of Ischia will give you an experience to be rejuvenated and inspired, in a paradise many travelers have not yet discovered.
