We’re returning to our Golden Days series, thanks to Mauro and Antonello Demuro, brothers who are co-owners of the Live In Sardinia agency. For ten years this company has helped clients find dream properties in Sardinia.
Here is their advice for a Golden Day on the island of Tavolara and surroundings.
The island of Tavolara can be visited by boat from the sea side village of Porto San Paolo, 10 km south of Olbia, in north east Sardinia.
It’s most impressive feature is a 500 meter high massif of limestone and granite, which is part of the Marine Protected Area of Tavolara – Punta Coda Cavallo. The seaside around it– jagged coves and mesmerizing crystal-clear water, is heaven for scuba divers.
We highly recommend reaching the top of the Mountain with a guided tour and enjoy the marvelous views.
In the afternoon, back in Olbia, enjoy at gelato at Gelateria Peter Pan( Viale Aldo Moro 100, 331 408 5332)
For an aperitivo, try the Kkult club in the historic center, along the attractive Corso Umberto where the “Olbiesi” enjoy their evening promenade.
For dinner, visit the popular, yet unpretentious Trattoria Rossi(07026 Olbia Tempio) in the sandy Pittulongu beach, where you’ll be facing the transparent water of Olbia’s gulf. These guys have been in business for 30 years. Make sure you book your table during the summer season as the venue is popular with locals (always a good sign) and tourists alike.
Order the fresh fish, locally sourced. We personally love the spaghetti alle Vongole (Spaghetti pasta with clams) the grilled sea-bream, and zuppetta di cozze (spicy mussels on a bed of tomato sauce).
For dessert, have “seadas or sebadas=honey fritters.
A great place to stay is Agriturismo La Taerra (Vaccileddi Porto Taverna, Porto San Paolo) where you’ll have beautiful views of La Tavolara.
Grazie mille Mauro and Antonello, for this great advice on a natural treasure of Sardinia!
