I’m grateful to be sending this new edition out into the world in the midst of our post-pandemic travel boom. It’s been wonderful on recent trips to see so many women reveling in the pleasures of Italy—some for the first time, others returning to discover new places. There’s a fresh appreciation for what a privilege it is to travel, inspiring us to truly savor every moment, slow down, stay longer, seek out hidden treasures and immersive experiences.
I’m always thrilled to hear from travelers and readers how my advice enriched their Italy adventures. Decades ago I’d get postcards and phone calls from women who got my scribbled lists.
These days, “thanks for the advice” comes via hearts and messages on social media—with photos of happy travelers holding up my book at a cooking class in Rome, buying gloves in Florence, or painting a mask in Venice.
And it’s been wonderful to share “My Italy” through Golden Weeks in Italy: For Women Only Tours that I design and host. Here’s where I witness firsthand women falling under the magic spell the country has on us females, which is what inspired me to write this book in the first place.
So much enthusiasm for Italian travel comes with so many more travelers. I’ve enjoyed revising this edition to include extraordinary crowd-free experiences in the major cities and off-the-beaten-
track gems where experiences for the memory books await. There are so many more than 100 places, so many more wonderful Italians to meet, so much more for me to share with you!
